Take action to urge LA Metro to electrify our bus fleet for LA 2028 Olympics!

In 2017, LA Metro made a historic commitment to transition to a 100% zero-emission bus fleet by 2030. While early steps were taken, such as electrifying the Orange Line, progress has stalled. As Los Angeles prepares to host the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics, Metro’s current plan falls drastically short—only 256 electric buses, just 12% of the fleet, will be operational in time for the world to watch. This lack of ambition is a missed opportunity for climate leadership, public health, and innovation.

With the federal government stepping back from climate action, Los Angeles must lead the way. The 2028 Games present a once-in-a-generation chance to showcase LA as a global leader in sustainable transit. Other Olympic host cities have set the bar high: Tokyo electrified 90% of its fleet in 2020, Beijing converted nearly all 12,000 of its buses in 2022, and Paris electrified 50% of its fleet in 2024. LA Metro must rise to the challenge.

Investing in a zero-emission fleet will deliver lasting benefits: cleaner air, high-quality jobs, and a more resilient transit system. We are calling on Metro to size this moment and take decisive action:

  • Deploy at least 1,175 electric buses to align with climate and air quality goals.

  • Electrify seven Metro divisions to support a fully sustainable transit system.

  • Ensure strong job standards to make Los Angeles a hub for clean transportation manufacturing.

The world will be watching our city in 2028. LA must seize this moment to lead on climate action and clean transportation for all Angelenos.
